    We have scheduled the ‘official opening and dedication ceremony’ for June 21, 2007.  What a great way to kick off the summer.  Details to follow as the date draws near.

    PCCS Marine Lab

    January 2007

    (Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA) - Construction of the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies’ new Marine Laboratory was completed this month with the installation of a new roof at the 11,300-square- foot Marine Lab.

    The Lab, located at 5 Holway Avenue, served as a Catholic school for St. Peter the Apostle Church from 1964-1985 and as an annex to Provincetown High School from 1985 to 2005.

    The new Marine Laboratory houses the following:

    • Two marine mammal labs;
    • Habitat studies lab with wet lab;
    • Coastal ecology and geology lab with wet lab;
    • Education office;
    • Library and conference room (open to public;)
    • Public exhibit area;
    • Large whale disentanglement lab and workshop;
    • Small auditorium/classroom (open to public;)
    • Storage room;
    • Archive;
    • Two bathrooms and shower;
    • Kitchenette and mail room.

    Once site work and landscaping are finished and the building is hooked up to the new sewer line, Executive Director Peter Borrelli expects that the total cost of acquisition and restoration will come to $2.7 million.

    “Although Provincetown’s local Little Big Dig has run smoothly, our Coastal Campaign is still underway,” reminded Borrelli.  Our goal is to raise an additional $1 million to endow the laboratory and core programs.  We are reaching out to all our friends at this point.  My request of our friends in Provincetown over the winter of 2007 is: Help Us Finish What You Started,” referring to the nearly unanimous vote of Town Meeting that authorized transfer of the property to the Center.  “The assistance of our hometown means a great deal to us,” he added.

    Ways to Give

      Pledges:  In capital campaigns, pledges help donors make larger gifts where donations are spread over

      several years.

      Cash:  One-time capital campaign cash gifts are always welcome.

      Corporate matches:  Some companies will match gifts made by employees or retirees.  As a 501 (c)(3)

      organization, PCCS is eligible for matching gifts.  Check with your organization to see if it makes

      matching gifts.

      Corporate gifts:  One-time gifts or multi-year pledges from corporations and businesses are encouraged

      and welcome.

      Gifts of Financial Securities or Real Estate:  Gifts of stocks, bonds or real estate may be an advantageous

      way to make a capital gift to the Center.  Donors should consult their financial advisors regarding tax and/or

      capital gains implications

      Endowment Gifts:  The Coastal Campaign allows donors to support general programs, a specific or new

      program with a major gift, the income of which, will help fund the program’s work over time.

      Restricted Gifts:  These gifts are designated for a specific program of interest to the donor.  (Example: Whale

      Rescue, Right Whale or Humpback Whale Research, Coastal Geology, etc…)

      Unrestricted Gifts:  Donations which provide income or capital for general program operations or facilities.

      In Memory or Honor Gifts:  Any gift may be made “in memory of or in honor of” a loved one, family member,

      friend, or entity.

      Naming opportunities are also available.
