School Programs
PCCS mission is to conduct educational activities and provide educational resources that encourage the responsible use and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems. PCCS scientific expertise ranges from marine mammals, including whales, seals and their habitats, to geology and land-sea interactions, to water quality monitoring and habitat restoration. PCCS in-school program seeks to work with local schools on developing meaningful watershed experiences for a variety of age groups. PCCS education program will work with schools using Massachusetts Current Curriculum Frameworks for Science and Technology/Engineering to develop in-class and field experiences for local schools.
Field Experiences
PCCS offers visiting school groups educational experiences in a variety of coastal and marine habitats. PCCS scientific research includes: geology, ecology, biology, zoology, anatomy, oceanography, marine science, and general natural history of coastal and marine environments of Cape Cod. Schools can choose from our list of Cape Exploration activities or work with the director of marine education to design a unique field experience that is designed to meet your state’s curriculum standards.
School Vacation Ocean Exploration Weeks
Through games, activities, investigations, and arts and crafts, students will discover the undersea world of Cape Cod. Learn why whales, seals and other animals visit the waters off Cape Cod. See what these creatures eat, and how they are adapted to the conditions here. Learn how scientists identify individual whales, and see how these endangered whales are saved by PCCS scientists. Programs in February offered at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and the Cape Cod Children’s Museum. Museum admission may apply.
