PCCS Announces May 5 Benefit for Humpback Whale Studies

Documentary Sneak Preview with Champagne Reception and Silent Auction

(Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA) - The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS) will host a benefit for its Humpback Whale Studies Program on Friday, May 5, at the new PCCS Marine Lab at 5 Holway Avenue. The event will feature a sneak preview of the documentary film-in-progress 'Voyage of a Whale'. A champagne reception and silent auction will precede the viewing.

Voyage of a Whale, shot by filmmaker Feodor Pitcairn in High Definition, follows Petit Point, a newborn humpback calf, and his 40-ton mother, Virgule. The film documents the dangers faced from both animal predators and humans, including shark attacks, fishing gear entanglement, and whalers. Voyage of a Whale provides a startlingly intimate portrait of humpback whale life. Pitcairn filmed on location in French Polynesia, Hawaii, Alaska, Newfoundland, and the Gulf of Maine.

A champagne reception, courtesy of Iron Horse Vineyards, and a silent auction will kick off the event at 7 p.m. Feodor Pitcairn will introduce his film-in-progress at 8 p.m. He and PCCS Humpback Whale scientist Jooke Robbins will be available for questions and discussion following the showing. Benefit tickets are $100 per person, and seating is limited. To RSVP, call Cathy Metzger at (508) 487-3623 x106, or contact PCCS by email at ccs@coastalstudies.org.

Benson, Young & Downs Insurance Agency will underwrite the event.
