Celebrate World Oceans Day With PCCS

(Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA) - The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies will launch a series of educational outreach events to raise awareness and encourage responsible stewardship of our oceans beginning June 5, and running through June 10, 2010.
The kickoff event, Tidal Flats Foray begins in Provincetown at the West End Breakwater at 12 p.m. Get your feet wet and discover the secret world of tidal flats with a PCCS naturalist. Free.
On Saturday, June 5 Province Lands Visitor Center, Race Point Road at 3:30 p.m., join Jesse Mechling, director of marine education for a presentation entitled "Cape Cod Marine Ecosystem Past, Present, and Future." Free.
Sunday, June 6, Rowes Wharf, Boston. Stop by the PCCS booth and enjoy marine themed games and activities for kids of all ages in celebration of World Ocean Day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.
Monday, June 7, join PCCS naturalists in Truro at Head of the Meadow Beach, beginning at 3:30 p.m. for a Beach Naturalist Walk. Hear about how the Cape was formed while searching for seals and other marine life. Free.
Wednesday, June 9, Provincetown, at the Hiebert Marine Lab beginning at 1 p.m., join PCCS scientists as they honor local participants and winners of the Massachusetts Marine Educator's Student Art Contest. The awards ceremony for local winners will be held in Larkin Hall followed by an opening of the winner's exhibition. The exhibition will run through July. Free.
Thursday, June 10, board the Bay Spirit from Ocean Street Dock, Hyannis at 10 a.m. for a Nantucket Sound Seal Cruise guided by a PCCS naturalist. Learn about seals and other wildlife found in Nantucket Sound during this 3-hour cruise. Tickets are $45 adults, $38 children 12 and under. Members get five dollars off.
