    PCCS Hosts Smithsonian/NOAA Exhibit

    (Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA) - The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies will host the Smithsonian Institution's Poster exhibit, From Sea to Shining Sea: 200 Years of Charting America's Coasts, on June 21, 2007 in recognition of the 200th anniversary of the Survey of the Coast, a predecessor of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

    Created by NOAA and the Smithsonian, the exhibit features posters depicting charts, artwork and photos from archives never before released for public display. PCCS is honored to be one of 200 locations across the nation selected to host the exhibit, which celebrates the scientific contributions, charting skills, and perseverance of America's first scientific agency.

    The exhibit will open at the Hiebert Marine Laboratory, 5 Holway Avenue, in Provincetown on June 21, 2007. Visitors are encouraged to arrive before 10 a.m. to hear guest speaker Secretary, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Ian Bowles and enjoy light fare, meet PCCS scientists, and tour the new facility. Admission is free and open to the public, all are encouraged to attend.

    The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies is dedicated to researching and protecting marine mammals and marine ecosystems in the Gulf of Maine through research, conservation and public education programs. PCCS is internationally renowned for its whale research, and is a leading authority in science-based resource management policies in Massachusetts.
